This year we will honor Hometown Hero, Carlene Clayton.
Not only was Mrs. Clayton born and raised in
Rusk, Texas, but she was also a graduate of Rusk High School, class of '68. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Clayton and raised her children, Bart and Ashley,
in the same town. With her love for her hometown and her passion for students and future graduates, she has devoted her life to educating and loving many generations of
Rusk students. Mrs. Clayton was a junior high school teacher who taught Language Arts at Rusk Junior High and went on to become an assistant principal and principal of
Rusk Junior High. She is currently the principal at Rusk Intermediate School. She has a total of 44 years of service in Rusk ISD. She spent many years teaching the youth
at FBC Rusk and much of her time throughout the years sponsoring cheerleading, UIL, GT and other school clubs. Her endless efforts to always help others and her passion
for caring for families has spread through out the community and is why she is so loved and respected by all. This is just one reason why we honor her as our Hometown Hero.
Mrs. Clayton is battling pancreatic cancer. Since being diagnosed in December, she has relied on her faith to sustain, guide, and pull through this time. She appreciates the outpouring of love and prayers from her family, friends, and the community. She especially cherishes the blossoming friendships she has formed with local cancer warriors and survivors. In celebration of her life and her passion for caring for others, help us continue her work in supporting the future generations by raising awareness for pancreatic cancer. Pour out your love for her and participate in this amazing event. It's your opportunity to do something remarkable!
We ask that you join us in celebrating and honoring Mrs. Carlene Clayton on May 26, 2018 Downtown Rusk at the "Who Let the Dogs Out" 5k Fun Run. We would love for Rusk Alumni, Students, Friends and Future Generations to come show your Eagle Pride!
